SnapLedger: AI receipt scanner and mileage tracker for tax-ready expense reports
SnapLedger turns receipt photos, spoken expense notes and business trips into a tax-ready spreadsheet. It is a free, mobile-first web app for freelancers, sole traders, contractors and other self-employed people in 38 countries across North America, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.
The free plan includes 10 AI scans a month. Your expenses stay stored on your own device, and the app works in 19 languages.
What SnapLedger does
- AI receipt scanning: photograph a receipt and SnapLedger reads the vendor, date, subtotal, tax, total, payment method and line items.
- Voice memo expenses: say "lunch with a client at Joe's Diner, 42 dollars" and the expense is transcribed and filled in for you.
- Mileage and distance log: record business trips by distance or odometer readings, with your country's default rate applied automatically. Optional automatic trip detection is available.
- Official tax categories: every expense is matched to a category and line number from IRS Schedule C, CRA T2125, HMRC Self-Employment, ATO, IRD or Irish Revenue.
- Recurring expenses: save templates for subscriptions, rent and other regular costs.
- CSV and Excel export: download CSV or XLSX files with a deduction summary sheet, or a full-year Tax Season Snapshot for your accountant.
How it works
- Choose your country to load its tax categories, currency and distance unit.
- Scan or say an expense. Review the AI's suggestions and save.
- Log business trips to build a mileage deduction.
- Export a CSV or XLSX report grouped by tax category.

Frequently asked questions
What is SnapLedger?
SnapLedger is an AI receipt scanner and mileage tracker that runs in any phone or desktop browser. It reads receipts and voice memos, sorts expenses into official self-employment tax categories and exports CSV or Excel (XLSX) reports for 38 countries.
Is SnapLedger free?
Yes. The free plan includes 10 AI receipt or voice scans per month plus mileage logging and unlimited CSV and XLSX exports. Extra scans cost USD 4.99 for 50 credits, or USD 4.99, 9.99 or 19.99 per month for 100, 300 or unlimited scans.
Which countries and tax forms does SnapLedger support?
SnapLedger supports 38 countries: the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand; Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Poland, Portugal, Greece, Czechia, Hungary and Romania; Türkiye, Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia; Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Mexico; and China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and the Philippines. Each country uses its own tax authority and form references, expense categories, currency, sales tax or VAT and distance unit.
How does SnapLedger calculate mileage deductions?
Each trip's distance is multiplied by your country's per-mile or per-kilometre rate. Default rates include USD 0.76 per mile (US, from July 2026), CAD 0.73 per km (Canada), GBP 0.55 per mile (UK, 2026-27), AUD 0.91 per km (Australia, 2026-27), EUR 0.30 per km (Germany), EUR 0.50 per km (Austria), CHF 0.75 per km (Switzerland) and PLN 1.15 per km (Poland). Where a country has no official per-kilometre rate, SnapLedger offers a suggested default. You can change the rate in Settings.
Can I export my expenses to Excel?
Yes. SnapLedger exports CSV and XLSX files that list every receipt and trip with its date, vendor, subtotal, tax, total, currency, tax-form category and line number, and whether it is deductible. The XLSX file adds a deduction summary sheet with totals by category, and a one-tap Tax Season Snapshot exports a full tax year.
Where is my expense data stored?
Your expenses, mileage and receipt thumbnails are stored on your own device in the browser. Receipt images and voice memos are sent securely for AI reading only when you scan, and an account is needed only to buy or use scan credits.
Does SnapLedger work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. SnapLedger is a mobile-first web app that works in Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox on iPhone, Android, tablets and computers, and it can be added to your home screen like an app.
Which languages is SnapLedger available in?
SnapLedger is available in 19 languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Ukrainian, Hindi, Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Urdu, Malay, Filipino, Japanese, Hebrew, Greek and Turkish.
